CHRISTINA JOVANOVIC

Christina Jovanovic is an associate in our Phoenix office working in our natural resources, energy and environment practice group. She works on complex natural resource issues which impact our environment, including air, water, land, vegetation, fish and wildlife, and the health and welfare of man. Christina’s experience includes developing National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Environmental Impact Statements (EIS)/Environmental Assessments (EA); commenting on EIS/EA and proposed regulations; due diligence; and evaluating property, mining, grazing permits, NEPA, the Endangered Species Act, and water rights issues. While natural resource law is a multifaceted discipline, she focuses her practice on issues pertaining to locatable and salable minerals.

After an eighth-grade trip to SeaWorld, Christina knew that she would devote her life to a career in science which lead her to earn a B.S., in Integrative Biology at the University of Illinois, followed by a an M.S., in Natural Resources & Environment at the University of Michigan.  As a student contractor for the U.S. Geological Survey, she sampled and analyzed endangered fish, fish eggs and larval fish for a restoration project in the Detroit River, and developed a bioenergetics model to determine the impact of a predator population on the food web of Saginaw Bay. Venturing to Arizona, at one juncture, working as a contract water quality inspector sampling soil and water, a mentor said, “I think you should go to law school, as you don’t seem interested in science for science sake, but rather science that helps people.” With that seed planted, Christina indeed went on to earn her J.D. from ASU, and now works in what she considers her dream job – using her science brain and background to solve complex legal matters with an ability to look at both sides of an argument.

Away from the office, Christina enjoys hiking and kayaking in Arizona’s majestic environs. She’s also a DJ with over 3,000 vinyl records – mainly Disco, House, Techno, Breaks, and Electro. If she really needs to destress, however, Christina walks her Catahoula leopard hounds or hits the gym, as she’s also a competitive bodybuilder.
