To dare is to momentarily lose one’s footing. Not to dare is to lose oneself.

Matthew C. Maler

Matt Maler is a civil litigation and appeals associate who works out of the firm’s Fresno office in our business litigation practice group. His work focuses on a diversity of matters including construction, real estate, and land use disputes. Matt’s passion for legal writing and oral argument has also led to a burgeoning appellate practice.

Originally from Fresno, Matt was initially on track toward becoming a professor, but he became disenchanted with the “head in the clouds,” ivory tower life of academia. Taking the honed argumentative writing and critical thinking skills he developed as a philosopher, Matt made a fluid transition to law school, during which he externed for Justice Snauffer at the California Fifth District Court of Appeal. Now, as an attorney, Matt delights in helping clients solve complex legal disputes with an eye toward practical resolutions in mediation and arbitration. But Matt is also not afraid to step into a courtroom in front of a judge or a jury or to develop a nuanced, convincing argument on appeal.

Outside of work, you’ll probably find Matt and his wife, Lexi, an emergency room nurse, walking the neighborhood with their beloved Golden Retriever, Sawyer. Matt is also a musician who plays violin, guitar and bass, as well as an athlete who enjoys weightlifting, skiing and golf.
