Timothy H. Smallsreed

Tim Smallsreed is an estate planning attorney with significant experience working with business executives, often becoming a trusted counsel in their various business ventures. Estate plans entailing operating business interests often necessarily include formation of multi-generational family enterprises and capital structures with multiple classes of ownership to maintain control while providing economic benefits to younger generations. Such long-term planning promotes both business succession and family integration.

Tim serves clients with insurance trusts, revocable trusts, minors’ trusts, charitable remainder trusts, private foundations, and as donors to public charities and supporting organizations. He is also experienced in trust administration and probate procedures, including those that apply to the acquisition, management, improvement and disposition of real property.

Tim has helped clients in all business stages, from single-member enterprises to syndicates, including forming and maintaining ownership interests in partnerships, limited liability companies and corporations – all of which must be integrated in comprehensive estate plans.

In his business practice, Tim advises individuals regarding commercial, nonprofit, and philanthropic entity formation and operation, finance and governance. He is experienced in negotiating and documenting shareholder agreements, mergers and acquisition buy-sell agreements for ownership interests and underlying assets, dissolutions, intellectual property development contracts, distribution and marketing agreements, international trade facilities and regulatory enforcement actions.
