Wendel Rosen Receives Spirit of CEB Award

Firm Recognized for Historical Contributions to Continuing Education of the Bar Publications

OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 20, 2015 – Wendel, Rosen, Black & Dean LLP, one of the largest law firms in the East Bay representing businesses throughout the region, was honored with the Spirit of CEB Award from Continuing Education of the Bar, California. As the first law firm to receive this award, Wendel Rosen was formally recognized for its more than five decades of contributions to CEB publications and programs at the State Bar of California Annual Meeting held from Oct. 8 -11 in Anaheim, Calif. Real Estate Practice Group Leader Daniel Myers and Insolvency, Restructuring and Creditor Rights Practice Group Partner Elizabeth Berke-Dreyfuss accepted the award on behalf of the firm.

“Continuing Education of the Bar is a critically important resource for attorneys in California, and I was proud to be in attendance at the State Bar meeting to receive this honor on behalf of Wendel Rosen,” said Berke-Dreyfuss. “I commend my colleagues for their incredible efforts over the course of their practices to work to enhance knowledge and best practices sharing in the legal profession, as well as our many peers who continue to volunteer their time and expertise to CEB.”

Co-sponsored by the State Bar of California, CEB is a program of the University of California that has served the legal profession with authoritative, innovative and practical resources to help California lawyers achieve success since 1947. In 2005, CEB initiated the Spirit of CEB Awards to recognize the service and contributions of individuals who have volunteered to write and speak for CEB, making an enduring impact on the continuing education of California attorneys through their work.

Over the past five decades, Wendel Rosen attorneys from a wide range of practice areas have written for CEB publications and spoken at programs covering numerous topics, including real property, bankruptcy, employment, estate planning, business, litigation and civil procedure. To put it in numbers, more than 30 firm attorneys have authored chapters in at least 22 CEB publications, including six new books, and at least 25 attorneys have spoken at more than 40 CEB programs. In addition, Real Estate Partner C. Gregg Ankenman has served on the CEB Real Property Advisory Committee. Previous individual Spirit of CEB honorees from Wendel Rosen have included Michael A. Dean and Charles A. Hansen.

In CEB’s program at the awards ceremony, it graciously noted that, “CEB is proud to have developed a close relationship with Wendel Rosen and its attorneys over many years. The firm consistently demonstrates a high level of expertise and excellence on which CEB has come to rely. We are grateful for their enduring commitment to continuing legal education and the elevation of the practice of law in California.” Bonnie Maly, a publications attorney at CEB who has worked with many Wendel Rosen attorneys on real property litigation books for nearly 20 years, declared, “If Wendel attorneys represent their clients with as much enthusiasm, reliability, and diligence as they do in their work for CEB, and I’m sure they do, then their clients are very fortunate.”
